What is a cataract?
A cataract develops when the normally clear natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. This clouding can make vision appear blurred, dim, faded or hazy.
Cataracts are often related to ageing, but other factors may include eye injury, certain medical conditions, previous eye surgery, family history or long-term use of some medications.
During the early stages, updated glasses or improved lighting may help some patients. When the cataract significantly affects daily vision, an ophthalmologist may discuss cataract surgery.
